FILMMAKER SHOWCASE

Sarah Patterson

IMG_1470Sarah Patterson, 17, is a senior at Palmer High School.  In her YDA application, Sarah wrote about dual passions she has to diminish bullying in schools and protect wolves in the wild.

For her YDA documentary project Sarah explored her own family’s longstanding business started by her grandfather, an artist and sculptor, many decades ago.  The film is part memoir, part investigation into what enables small businesses to survive difficult economic times.

Although Sarah never met her grandfather, her thoughtful probing of her grandmother, parents and employees who knew him, paints a picture of a generous, resilient man, whose love of the Colorado outdoors permeated his life.

A LEGACY OF MEMORIES premiered at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and has been screened at Inside/Out Youth.  Sarah is a member of the Palmer High School film club and hopes to pursue film studies at a four year college or university after she graduates this spring.

YDA gave me the opportunity to learn how to make films. This is exactly what I want to do.  It also opened the doors for scholarships and other opportunities so I can pursue filmmaking in college.
