FILMMAKER SHOWCASE

Madison Legg

MadyMadison Legg completed her film at the age of 16 and while a student at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs. Mady was adopted from Cambodia when she was 16 months old. When her brother, Jacob, also an adoptee from Guatemala, attempted suicide, Mady began investigating the issue. She uncovered an epidemic of attempts and completed suicides by teenagers in the area. She decided to make a highly personal film exploring the emotional dynamics of her brother’s story. In addition to filmmaking, Mady loves writing and used many of her own personal journal entries and essays to construct narration for UNDER THE WIRE. In 2017 UNDER THE WIRE was the foundation for an episode of “Insight with John Ferrugia” titled ‘Surviving Suicide’ on Rocky Mountain PBS, and won the Heartland Emmy Award in the category, “Children/Youth/Teen Program/Special.” Now 20, Mady continues to screen her film, raising awareness and moving the needle around youth suicide prevention and mental health in El Paso County. She is attending college, pursuing a degree in film studies, and continues her passion for writing.
