YDA Film Selected For Ireland Film Festival

Corynn McAfee

A graduating senior at Widefield High School, Corynn used her YDA fellowship to investigate the shortcomings of her biological father and the ways it impacted her upbringing. In MY DAD, she makes discoveries that lead her to redefine the meaning of fatherhood and reshape her own family’s future.

In an interview with Corynn, she describes the central message of her film saying, “my message was there’s a lot of domestic violence going on nowadays…and it’s a serious issue because not only is it impacting one person, but it’s impacting the whole family. So my point of bringing it out was to say, ‘this is real’.” The film tells Corynn’s personal story of exploring family dynamics growing up, aiming to create awareness of modern domestic violence among families.

Since the film was released, Corynn mentions that she is excited about the film’s appearance in Ireland’s Fresh Film Festival, which takes place in Limerick, Ireland every Spring and presents films created by young people all over the world. “Knowing that [the film] got all the way to Ireland, I am pretty sure the message is getting out there now, and that makes me happy.” Corynn has since started a gaming podcast and is currently finishing her senior year of High School as well as planning on studying Theater in the Fall.
